Vulvitis is an inflammation of the external genitalia and the vaginal entrance; it is characterised by redness and edema of the labia majora and minora, burning, itching and sharp painfulness to touch. The inflammation may be caused by introduction of microbes from without in cases of untidy genitalia and violation of the epithelial integrity, or from the internal organs together with the outflowing discharges. It is therefore clear that treatment must aim at eliminating the causes of this disease.
