This method is used in cases in which it is necessary to obtain some uterone mucosa for microscopic examination ot to ascertain if there are any embryonic reamains in the uterine cavity. The same instruments are prepared for diagnostic curetages is collected on a clean gauze napkin placed on the lower speculum, or in a spaecial dish. Then the material is put in a jar containing alcohol or a 3-4 per cent formalin solution, the jar is labelled, the number of the case history, name and age of the patient, date of expected menstruation, tentative diagnosis and date of the curettage being indicated on the label. The material is sent to a histological laboratory for examination.
